PROJECT PEHCHAN  
   
 
   
Under global round -9 the project Pehchan has been launched by alliance India, Delhi and in association with The Humsafar Trust, Mumbai in 17 states of the country to scale up the intervention among diversified MTH (MSM/TG/HIJDA) population with advance and enhanced services. With the help of sub recipients, "The Humsafar Trust" Project Pehchan have been initiated at Sarathi Trust, Nagpur from October 2011. Intervention focus more on capacity building of the community and CBO, provisioning to provide advance counseling services inclusive of violence and trauma, mental health and psychological aspects, legal help and life skill education, ART adherence barriers assessments, HIV/STI services. Engaging various stakeholders from different stratum is also one of the important tasks in the project Pehchan.

Overall achievements of the project till date
   
  • CBO Led program covered 2486 (MTH) Population
• 1043 have been tested for HIV in which 9 found HIV Positive and successfully linked to ART Centers
• 8 man and no-man outlets established on the various cursing sites
• 57743 condom where distributed through outlets and hand to hand
• 28, covered population where referred to STI Clinics and treated.
• Successfully advocacy done with the police, media, stockholders, and ICTC Centers
• PLHIV Support group formed under the supervision of Counselor
   
Challenges faced in implementing the overall Pehchan Projects
   
  • Getting skilled staff to work in the project from either the MSM community or General community was very difficult.
• Staff turnover was one of the huge obstacles in sustaining rest of the staff.
• There was harassment of outreach worker and staff from local goondas and police, there was blackmailing by police.
• The series of harsh articles published by some print media has given limelight to local goons for harassments..
• Turning up more number of stakeholders in the advocacy meetings
• IEC material was not MSM/TG Community Specified which effect target achievements
• Organizing advocacy was difficult in absence of supporting letters from donor agencies
• Release of fund was not on Time. The CBO find difficult to retain the staff in absence of salary on time.
